Balloon Festival

Our weekend getaway in Oklahoma 2 years ago was spent mostly by watching the Balloon Festival in Tahlequah. As I wrote in my previous post, we stayed in a vacation house in Cookson. Friday evening we went to watch the balloon glow. I was surprised to see lots of people there. It was my first time to watch a balloon festival and those balloons were really huge and colorful. I took some photos when they had those balloons lighted up and twinkled. After the balloon glow, they had a fireworks show to wrap up the day’s event.

The next day, we went again to watch when they flew the balloons after we had our lunch. It took a while to wait. While waiting on the balloons to fly, there was a live concert but I didn’t really care about it because I don’t like those kind of music. It’s good that a group of Gospel singers sang next and we sat down and listened to their songs. The balloons flew later than what was scheduled because there was a shower in the afternoon. It’s good they decided to fly anyway but not a lot of them because of the rain.

I Thank God...

...for giving me another year in my life. I celebrated my birthday the 5th of this month but it was just a simple celebration. Hubby got out of the hospital on the day of my birthday. We spent a fortune for his hospitalization that's why he was not able to buy a gift for me. But I'm thankful to God because hubby is fine now and the doctors didn't find any serious illness in him except an inflamed colon due to colitis.

Last year during my birthday, hubby gave me silver jewelries as my birthday present, a matching silver necklace and bracelet with crystal stones that glitter like diamonds. They were so pretty and I like them. Before my birthday, I told my hubby that I'm not requesting any particular gift like I used to. I told him it's up to him what he wants to give me. So I was surprised when he gave me the jewelries. I hugged and kissed him. He asked me if I like his gifts. Of course I do like it. Hubby knows that I love jewelries. But my hubby is the best gift that God has given me. I won't trade him for anything else.

I thank God for everything. I thank God for all the years that He has given me and I thank Him for my life. Without Him I won't be in this world.

Vacation at Lawley House

I just want to reminisce our weekend getaway in Oklahoma two years ago. Our Sunday School teacher Bro. Hugh & his wife Ms. Mareta invited us to attend the Balloon Festival in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on August 17-19, 2007. They rented a vacation cottage house in Cookson Hill, OK, about 12 miles from Tahlequah and a 5 hour drive from Wichita Falls where we lived. We left in the morning but we had to stop by at the commissary at Sheppard AF base to buy some ingredients for lumpia. Ms. Mareta wanted me to teach her how to make lumpia because she love the lumpia that I made which I gave her several times. On the way, we stopped by at Pancho's Mexican Buffet restaurant in Oklahoma City for lunch. Ms. Mareta paid our lunch that day. When we finally reached our destination, we saw this house which was called Lawley House and we stayed here for 2 nights.

The house has 3 bedrooms and all the rooms are clean and bright with large windows. The kitchen was furnished with gas range, ref, and all amenities are included in the house such as linens, towels, washer & dryer, flat iron & board, tv, dishes, cookwares and utensils so we were able to cook our breakfast.

We really like the house, it’s old but updated, clean and well decorated. There was even a pear tree in front of the house which according to the owner was already 110 years old but it was still bearing fruits. It’s so peaceful and quiet in that place and there were lots of trees in that area so it’s cooler there. It’s like a home away from home.

Welcome Signs

I love taking pictures in front of the welcome signs of the states that we've visited. I got this idea from my friend Sofia. I think this is a good idea to have souvenir shots of the states that we've been to. That's the reason that I prefer to travel by car rather than by airplane because I get to see other states that we passed by. I just got here in the US when we drove to Iowa and we passed by a few states like Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. We didn't stop to take photos in the welcome signs. I didn't have this idea yet of taking photos in front of the welcome signs. But it's good we took the photos of the welcome signs of the states we passed by when we went to Colorado in July 2007. Also I had my photo taken at the welcome sign when we went to Oklahoma. I love sight-seeing and taking pictures. I enjoy looking at the wonderful creations of our Lord. It's awesome! Makes me love Him more and more.
